🚀 Getting Started with VaultTerm
Welcome to VaultTerm — a clean, local-only Android SSH client focused on security and simplicity.
VaultTerm connects directly from your phone to your server.
- ❌ No backend
- ❌ No cloud
- ❌ No analytics
- ❌ No ads
Everything happens locally on your device.
🔌 Creating Your First Connection
Open VaultTerm and fill in the connection form.

A friendly name for this connection.
Examples:
- My VPS
- Home Server
🌐 Host

Change this only if your server uses a custom SSH port.

🔑 Password
Your SSH password.
You can toggle password visibility using the 👁 icon.
By default, the password is used only for the current connection session.
▶ Connect vs 💾 Save Profile
▶ Connect
Immediately connects to the server using the entered details.
Nothing is saved.
💾 Save Profile
Stores this connection profile locally on your device.
⚠ Important
The password is NOT stored by default.
If you want VaultTerm to remember passwords, you must explicitly enable password storage in Settings.
Only after enabling this option will VaultTerm store credentials locally (encrypted using Android Keystore).
This ensures you stay in control of how credentials are handled.
⚙ Password Storage
VaultTerm lets you decide whether passwords are stored.
- By default: passwords live only in memory during the active session.
- If enabled in Settings: passwords are stored locally on your device using Android Keystore encryption.
Passwords are decrypted only in memory during active connections.
🔑 Host Key Verification (TOFU)
VaultTerm uses TOFU (Trust On First Use):
- On first connection, the server host key is trusted and stored locally.
- On subsequent connections, VaultTerm verifies the server against the stored key.
- If the key changes, the connection is rejected.
All verification happens locally on your device.
🔐 Where Is My Data Stored?
VaultTerm does not use any cloud services.
- Connection profiles are stored locally
- Credentials are stored locally (only if enabled)
- No data is sent to any external servers
🛠 If Connection Fails
Before posting for support:
- Verify the host is reachable
- Double-check port, username, and password
- Try connecting from a desktop SSH client first
- Take a screenshot of the error
Then post in VaultTerm → Support with:
- 📱 Device model
- 🤖 Android version
- 📦 VaultTerm version
- ❗ Exact error message
This helps us help you faster.
Thank you for testing VaultTerm.
🧠 We build clean, slow, and correct.
