๐ Security Model โ How VaultTerm Handles Your Data
VaultTerm is built around one simple rule:
๐ก๏ธ Your infrastructure stays yours.
๐ซ No External Services
VaultTerm uses:
โ No backend
โ No cloud
โ No analytics
โ No telemetry
โ No ads
There is zero external data flow.
๐ Direct SSH Connections
All connections go directly:
๐ฑ Android โ ๐ Your Server
No proxies.
No relay servers.
No middlemen.
๐ค Connection Profiles
Profiles are stored locally on your device.
They contain:
- Profile name
- Host
- Port
- Username
Nothing is synced or uploaded.
๐ Password Storage
By default:
โ Password is not saved
๐ง Exists only in RAM during active session
If enabled in Settings:
๐ Encrypted using Android Keystore
๐๏ธ AES key lives inside Keystore
๐ Disk stores only encrypted blob + IV
Plaintext exists only in memory while connected.
Never:
โ Plaintext on disk
โ Plaintext in SharedPreferences
๐ก๏ธ Host Key Verification (TOFU)
VaultTerm uses TOFU (Trust On First Use):
๐ First connection
โ Host key accepted
๐พ Key stored locally
๐ Next connections
๐ Host key verified
โ If changed โ connection blocked
This protects against MITM attacks.
๐งฑ Local-Only Architecture
VaultTerm operates entirely on-device:
โ SSH handled locally
โ Terminal rendered locally
โ Encryption handled locally
No remote dependencies.
VaultTerm is designed for users who value privacy, control, and transparency.
