Thailand is preparing a 450-baht (about 12–13 euros) entry fee for foreign tourists.
Note: the fee does not replace travel insurance – the fund only covers immediate emergencies.
We will update this topic when the start date is confirmed. What do you think about the fee? Will it affect your travel plans?
Status on 19 October 2026
- Amount: 450 baht per traveller (a family of four would pay 1,800 baht).
- Not in force yet: the fee has not been finally approved. The proposal still goes to the National Tourism Policy Committee and the Cabinet, and is finally published in the Royal Gazette.
- Timeline: officials are aiming for early 2027. Under the draft, the fee would take effect 180 days after publication in the Royal Gazette.
- Air arrivals first: the fee would first apply to travellers arriving by air. Land and sea borders would follow about a year later.
- Collection: most likely online before arrival or at airport kiosks. Airlines have opposed adding the fee to ticket prices.
- Exemptions: according to the drafts, for example permanent foreign residents, diplomats and work permit holders. The final list will be confirmed later.
What is the money used for?
- Maintaining tourist attractions and national parks (waste management, roads, water, toilets, piers, island infrastructure)
- A fund covering emergency hospital costs for uninsured foreign visitors
- Strengthening the tourist police and beach rescue services
Note: the fee does not replace travel insurance – the fund only covers immediate emergencies.
